If you come looking for Art, nothing better than to
begin by the "Iglesia del Socorro",
ancient Carmelites convent, that counts inside it with a baroque altarpiece
of great beauty.
Also it harbors a Museum where to admire a carving of Gregorio Fernández
(1576-1636) that represents an articulated Christ, that is drawn in
procession in the Holy Week from Valderas and from León. |

If the visitor yet feels like to admire holy works of art must take
a pause in the "Iglesia de San Juan"
and to see its greater altar (century XVII) its dome style plateresco
(century XVI) or its gates, accomplished by Collante in 1600. Other
obligated pause in a church is Santa María
del Azogue, with its five altarpieces and its baroque style

Once the traveler has admired the works with which what is human intends
to serve to what is divine, take a loose into this streets labyrinth
that certify our Villa, since in all they there has of finding things
that attracting their/its/your/his attention.
The "Plaza Mayor" (Bigger square),
with the Council-house.
The Arch of the Arrejas and the Gate
of Santiago, surviving of the ancient wall, this last gate
is decorated with the shields of the Villa and of the Osorio, flanking
a carving of the Apostle.
The Palace of the Marquiss of Janillo, decorated
its facade with the cross of Santiago, granite and balcony columns
of wrought gate, with a wide courtyard with cloister in the interior.

The style created by Juan of Herrera (1530-1597), counts here with
exponent several of great merit: The Seminar
(century XVIII), with its closed cloister and the house
of María de las Hazas.
Of the nobility with the one which is pregnant the history of this
Villa, speak the numerous blazoned houses, as that of Alvar
Pérez de Osorio, identificable by the curious balcony
on its corner.
In Altafría, from where where our
view could encompass the people and the river Cea, and below the Fields
Earth and the Leonese mountains, are found the remains of the Castle,
a fortín built by Fernando II (Century XII), and the bullring
dug in soil |
